We all know about men with fish pictures on their dating profiles. I wanted to poke fun at this and reverse the roles making Rei clumsily pose with a fish dressed in fishing gear (couldn't miss the cap with the sunglasses), but keeping it her style intentionally trying to impress guys. Anime has always been a huge influence in my work as a 2D illustrator, so when I started 3D art, I was drawn to non photorealistic rendering trying to match my 2D visual language in 3D work.
